This post is a different format to the others. It is an interview with myself on the question of whether one can be a competitive dragon boat paddler once we get older. If you like this format, please place a comment in the comments section.
Q&A with Dragon Analytics: Competitive Dragon Boat Paddling After 60
Interviewer: Welcome to our Q&A session! Today, we’re thrilled to speak with Dragon Analytics, a hub for dragon boating insights. The question for today is: Can someone over 60 really be a competitive dragon boat paddler?
D.A.: Absolutely, they can! Age doesn’t define your ability to compete—it’s about heart, training, and teamwork. Dragon boating is unique because it’s a team sport where you can race in amongst all ages and you can race in Masters and Seniors categories, so you’re racing against peers. I’ve seen paddlers in their 60s and 70s not just compete but win medals at national and international events. It’s inspiring!
Science backs this up: a 2021 study showed older athletes gain strength, endurance, and confidence from sports like dragon boating. With the right approach, you can paddle strong and love every minute of it.

Interviewer: That’s motivating! Let’s talk about the physical side. What challenges might a 60-year-old face in competitive dragon boating, and how can they overcome them?
