Dragon Boating and the Dunning-Kruger Effect

The Dunning-Kruger Effect describes when a paddlers’ perception of their own abilities doesn’t match reality? What happens when a paddler is in their second year of paddling, feel they are ready to critique other crew members on their techniques.

The Dunning-Kruger Effect (DKE), is a cognitive bias where those with lower skill overestimate their competence, while the highly skilled may underestimate theirs due to an awareness of the task’s complexity.

This is a common issue in some clubs and in this post I will describe how the Dunning-Kruger Effect might play out in dragon boating.
